My trip to London ..and Paris
My first trip to London .. and Paris LONDON … and Paris I was afforded the opportunity to go to London last week to meet with one of the biggest music managers in all of Europe. He requested a meeting with me face to face and I surely couldn’t pass up on it. I had heard that London’s weather was cold and damp and rainy many times during the year but had hoped for a different climate for my visit. Sadly, I was wrong. All three days I spent there it rained and was damp and cold. Still, the city is beautiful, contemporary and foreign looking considering all the movies and tv shows I’ve watched from the UK since I was a kid. My meeting was excellent and it was very exciting to be sitting face to face with someone who had signed my favorite band in the world - U2 and continues to work the world’s largest acts. Our meeting was about his company co-managing me in the UK and Europe and releasing my debut “Love, Work & Money” overseas. I’m looking forward to see what comes of it and there’s a very positive energy in the air surrounding the project. Upon arriving at my hotel in London, I was excited to go check out the city. Located off High Street in Kensington, I found Whole Foods (yay! coconut water) and a bunch of stores that we have over here in the US. Seeing the GBP sign was a bit daunting especially since 1 GPB equaled 1.6 USD. You wouldn’t say that’s a great deal would you? It’s very expensive and I never seemed to grasp the concept of the prices. The London Underground- that’s another one that never made sense to me. The tube moves in a circle around the city and is the most confusing transit system i’ve ever encountered. Upon my next visit, I think i’ll be in much better shape getting around the city. LOOK BOTH WAYS before crossing the street! That’s the number one lesson I took away from my first visit to London. I was freaked out by the cars driving on the wrong ( right:) side of the road and had to keep paying very close attention to the walkways as the cars speed past you in a foreign direction. It’s uncomfortable to say the least since you can’t make a mistake! I really enjoyed the Notting Hill area and had some great fish and chips in a local pub along with a nice pint of Guiness. It was the perfect english meal! With a few days extra, I took the Eurostar to Paris and visited all the sites I’ve dreamed about - The Louvre, The Eiffel Tower, The Musee D’Orsay( which has the most incredible collection of romantic and impressionist paintings I’ve ever seen) and was able to experience the cafes along the streets of Paris. I had the chance to practice my broken French and since coming home , I can’t stop! Pardon moi … Ce’ bonne!
